Wimbledon Embraces Video Review System in 2025.

Wimbledon court with replay technology

The tournament joins the US and Australian Opens in utilizing replay systems.

Video review systems will make its debut at Wimbledon in the upcoming tournament.

Athletes are granted the option to contest particular calls from the official, echoing the protocol already in operation at both the American Grand Slam and the Australian Open.

This technology is slated for use on the main stadium and Court One for the duration of the Championships and on the remaining show courts when they are staging singles contests.

This step comes just a year after the AELTC introduced ELC, which terminated the centuries-old tradition of line officials.

Reviewable Decisions

Competitors cannot to dispute the call of the ELC system, but they can request the official to re-examine other situations, such as:

  • Whether a tennis ball has double-bounced.
  • Whether a shot touched an rival's racket or body during play.
  • Possible interference at the conclusion of a rally.

Notably, there is an unlimited number on the number of challenges a competitor can request.

Practical Application

A recent incident occurred in Indian Wells last week, where Daniil Medvedev used the review system against Jack Draper.

Draper admitted it was a difficult situation for the official, but thought his opponent had "played the rules effectively."

Official Aurelie Tourte viewed a replay and ruled the player was responsible for hindrance, awarding the rally to Medvedev.

Growing Trend

This technology aren't new for major tournaments. It was adopted at the US Open for two years and the Aussie Open this year.

Furthermore, it is increasingly prevalent on the WTA circuit, and by the coming year the men's ATP Tour will have the system implemented at all of its events.

Further Updates

Another change at Wimbledon this year will be the addition of graphical cues on displays to support the audio calls from the ELC system.

This solves instances where fans have sometimes been unsure whether a shot was out or in.

Finally, with precisely 100 days remaining until the beginning of the tournament, the AELTC have also announced an expansion in daily attendance at the qualifiers in the qualifying venue.
