A Manchester team has an amateur veterans team with 9 former Premier League footballers in their present squad.

The team Veterans Over-35s are located in southern Manchester and compete in the Cheshire-based Vets Division Top Tier.

Their lineup this campaign features 9 former Premier League footballers, with a collective over 1,800 Premier League appearances.

This high-profile roster also boasts 222 Premier League goals and 325 international appearances.

They include Papiss Cisse, who notched 37 scores in over 100 appearances for Newcastle United after joining them for £9m from German league side Freiburg in January 2012.

Cisse made his first appearance for Wythenshawe in their last home game against reigning title holders their rivals and scored every one of the six goals in a six-two win - including a 32-minute opening period triple.

Wythenshawe's team for this season also includes former professionals such as England and Anfield forward Emile Heskey, Hull and Burnley winger George Boyd, Everton forward Oumar Niasse, Wigan defender Maynor Figueroa, Manchester City pair Stephen Ireland and Nedum Onuoha and Premier League championship winners Joleon Lescott and Danny Drinkwater.

Ireland began playing for the team in preseason this season through good mate and present team player Blake Norton, and the former Republic of Ireland player then invited additional ex-pros, who all play in a weekly nine-a-side match, to join in.

Former Senegal striker Oumar Niasse, who scored twelve scores in 65 top-flight games for Everton and still goes to their matches at Goodison Park, also had his first appearance versus the opposition - who are located in Liverpool and wear an Everton training kit as their strip.

"My friend Stephen Ireland said 'come and have a game, it's enjoyable'," commented Niasse.

So great is the bench strength at Wythenshawe, he made his debut at full-back.

"It's a bit unusual but then, I enjoy sprinting and just move inside - I'm not staying back that much," he said.

"I warn my defender 'I'm not staying' and that I'm just going to keep running.

"That movement is what I'm looking for. It's enjoyable."

'Surreal Feeling

In addition to the forward's six goals on debut, Ireland has scored eight in three games for Wythenshawe, while George Boyd scored 5 on his first match and Joleon Lescott, a centre-half by trade, scored a triple in one match as a striker.

The team are leading of the Top Tier with three victories from 3 and a goal difference of +19.

Paul Barrow, thirty-eight, who plays on the flank for the opposition, came up against former Wigan full-back Maynor Figueroa on the weekend - and had to explain his young boy who Emile Heskey was.

Figueroa has appeared at 2 World Cups for his country, in addition to featuring in more than two hundred top-flight matches.

"It was going round like a rumor they had all these former top-flight stars," remarked Barrow.

"I felt I was a bit starstruck facing Figueroa to be honest.

"Even Emile [Heskey] came on and he's got over 60 English appearances.

"We held our own for a solid 20 minutes but then we had a player dismissed and it was tough.

"We really haven't stopped talking about it - I was phoning my mother and brother on the journey home.

"The opponents were all really nice, shaking our hands after the game - it was like playing a bunch of regular guys.

"Now we can't wait for the second fixture."
